View temperature, fan rotation, and battery health from Terminal

If you like typing commands, or using Terminal, you might like an add-on called iStats, which runs from Terminal on Mac OS X.

With iStats you can view system information such as machine temperature, fan speed, battery health, cycle count, max cycle count and battery temperature etc.

To install it first you need to open Terminal by going to Launchpad -> Other -> Terminal or click on Spotlight (Command + Space) and type in Terminal and press Enter.

1. Install iStats

At Terminal type in:

sudo gem install iStats

Enter the password when asked and wait a moment.


2. Use

To use, you just need to type in Terminal the command states, The relevant information will be displayed. If you want to display the machine temperature, just type istats cpu.
